Dinaka Camp, Kalahari, Botswana

The Kalahari region never disappoints – with such a unique bio-diversity filled with stunning landscapes and incredible skies.  Combining the Kalahari region with an Okavango Delta or Chobe region camp/s really adds great dimension and diversity to an itinerary.

Ker & Downey – one of Botswana’s top safari lodge operators – acquired Dinaka Camp from private owners (previously Dinaka Safari Lodge) and launched the ‘’new’’ camp in March 2018.  The camp is situated in a private reserve bordering the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

The camp itself has eight luxury tents – seven of which are twin/double, and one family unit (two bedrooms, shared bathroom).  The tents are raised off the sand pathways on wooden decks and all tents overlook a small water hole – perfect for relaxing during the day and seeing who might come for a visit!  The tents have all of the facilities and amenities that one would want – mosquito nets over the beds, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, vanity kit, shower cap), bug spray and repellent, slippers and gowns.  The tents have a wonderful outdoor shower (as well as an inside shower), are equipped with a multi-adaptor plug which includes a USB socket and have a writers’ desk.  The camp has a dining area, lounge area, firepit area and plunge pool.

The camp is well appointed for families with children (minimum age 7 years old) and offer kids meals, child friendly activities and warm and friendly staff and guides.

Game drives are offered during the day and at night (being in a private reserve allows night drives to be offered) giving opportunity to see desert-habitat wildlife such as honey badger, bat eared fox, brown hyena, porcupine, as well as lion, leopard, giraffe, springbok, oryx and possibly even cheetah!

In addition to game drives, activities include walking with traditional bushmen, nature walks, a sleep-out deck and photographic hides.

Self-drives are possible, however flying into the camps private airstrip is recommended.

Dinaka is a wonderful camp, with friendly staff, delicious food and great opportunities to experience the Kalahari!!
